January 2016 in Kensington, MD/Washington D.C. Temple Mission

Happy January/New Year!

New Year's Day - we decided to go downtown to use a gift card that Brad had given us last year for Christmas to The Old Ebbitt Grill.  There wasn't much traffic on the Metro.  And not a whole lot of people downtown, either.  They were all in The Old Ebbitt Grill!  It was a FREEZING cold day!

The oldest saloon in Washington.
A D.C. tradition since 1856, The Old Ebbitt Grill is just steps from the White House.
Named #3 Top Independent Restaurant in the Nation by Restaurant Business Magazine.

Best Creme Brule I have ever had!

There is a great gift shop just across the street from the restaurant.  I bought this really warm sweatshirt; and then could have my picture taken in the next two poses.

Taking down the Christmas lights on the temple grounds.

My Visiting Teaching companion, Helen Hanson, has been giving me her old clip-on earrings - and her sister's - who has passed away.

Our friends, the Lewises from Cedar City, Utah, went home for a baby blessing and while they were there, Evan made these pens for us in his workshop.  Very thoughtful.  Michael's is a bolt action bullet (replica) and mine is made from Corian counter top.

This beautiful afghan was made by my friend, Jacki Gardner.  We serve in the Baptistry on Saturday afternoons together.  Michael is doing our nightly Book of Mormon reading.

This sunset was taken at the lake beach by Brad's house.

I love that we have found a Chick-fil-A.

Preparing for a walk in the cold.

Here comes the snow!

We invited our friends, Camille and Terry Smith, over for dinner and to put together a puzzle.

Putting together a puzzle is serious business for Michael.

Notice the really cool bowl - from Andy.

And snow...it did!

And this is what we do when we are snowed in.

Church was truly wonderful - beautiful testimonies and as always, good food.

 The finished product.

We walked up to Safeway just to look at the empty shelves - and they were empty!
It was an interesting walk to get around all the drifts and snow-removal equipment.

Not ONE donut on the shelves!

And then it got warm.  Craziness!

Our neighbors, Sue and LaMar Adams.

I'm very tired of winter!!!

I love the Cardinals.  They are so beautiful.  (I didn't take this picture.)

Some pictures just touch me and I want to share.

I used this quote a few weeks ago in a sacrament meeting talk.

Heading off to help dig out some of the neighborhood people.

 And digging out cars.

And now we're back to work - the roads have been cleared.

Out to dinner with Pam and Evan Lewis at our new favorite Chinese restaurant - Spring Garden.

I get to make fun flyers.

And eat fun birthday cake.

Our January birthdays.

Michael's Christmas gift from me finally arrived.

Pictures from Home

Pretty Hallie - ready for a date.

Henry and friend learning a new dance.

Jeffrey and family (Eloise and Henry) out to dinner.
I'm guessing that Amy is taking the picture.

This is just the cutest thing ever!

 Happy Birthday, Henry.

Play Doh time

Look, Dad.  Just like the book.

Yay Jay!  Eagle Court of Honor.
So very proud of you.

This snow storm was certainly less in volume than the one we survived; however, I'm absolutely positive that this one was way more fun than ours!
Oregon -vs- Maryland

Go Wayne!

Can you say, "Homesick"?

Fun cards from Wayne and family.

Pretty Vikki and cute Paxton.

Parker and Cooper on their new Christmas toys.  I want to try this when I get home.

I am always thrilled when my grandchildren read.

Is Paxton teaching the turtle to read?

The Modjeskis at Barnes and Noble buying their books for Christmas.

Jay Cannon and Abbey Stout
Kennedy Chandler and friend

This made me laugh!

I think I said this once before; but I will say it again!
I AM TIRED OF WINTER!

We love you all.
Remember who you are.
Lots of love and hugs from
