October 2015 in Kensington, MD / Washington DC Temple Mission

Happy October!

During the temple closure we were assigned to a Young Singles Adult ward.  At the end of that assignment, we were asked to give a Family Home Evening lesson on Family History and its connection to the temple.  It was a fun evening.  The couple that served with us were the Family History gurus.  They are Merlin and Joy Price from Shelley, Idaho.

My feet have not been happy to make the transition from sandals and flip flops to closed-toe shoes.

I still love to go to the bookstore and out to dinner while the men are attending their priesthood meeting.

We had a lovely group of sisters.  And a fun meal at a Mexican restaurant.

******************************************************

At General Conference we were able to connect with Kate Werrett from our Willamette Ward.  She was also in the YSA ward we attended during the break.  It was delightful to hear her teach the Gospel Doctrine class.

This is a beautiful afghan that was made and given to me by Jacki Gardner.  She and her husband are District Temple Workers and are the Baptistry Directors on the Saturday mid shift.  That is the shift where we serve as the Assistant Baptistry Directors.  We have become very good friends.  It will be hard to say good-bye to them.

Fifty years -- and counting!
And even more in love than we were fifty years ago!

This was a very lovely place where we had our celebratory dinner.

Beautiful flowers sent to us by our amazing children.

AND
We certainly did not expect this wonderful gift from our wonderful children!
The Idaho Falls Temple.
.....where we were married for time and eternity.
Thank you so very much.  This is a treasure, always to be displayed in our home.
We sure do love our very thoughtful children!

Oh my!  After 34 years one of my crowns fell off!  I am sooo grateful for good dentists.
Not such a pretty look.

Ahhh!  Much better!  Two brand new beautiful crowns!
Thank you, Dr. Brad Wiltbank in McLean, Virginia.

The geranium at the front door of our apartment.  I have been taking care of it since our friends, Wayne and Sue Slade went home.  I would say that for the middle of October, it is doing pretty well.

*******************************************************

Sugar Loaf Mountain.
The missionaries had an outing to the Foulger/Pratt Barn in this beautiful part of Maryland.  President Foulger is a counselor in the Temple Presidency.  We had a fun 'hay ride' and amazing food in this amazing place.  It was not like any barn I have ever seen!

Our friends, Linda and Ruffin LeBrane, from Port Townsend, Washington.

*****************************************************

Our friends, the Prices.
(still learning to use this crazy selfie-stick)

Our friends, Glenn and Shirline Tefteller, from Highland, UT.

President and Sister Colton.
Temple President and Matron.

President and Sister Foulger.
1st Counselor and Assistant to the Matron

President and Sister Swift.
2nd Counselor and Assistant to the Matron.
It was fun to see the Temple Presidency out of 'uniform.'

Bishop and Marian Mieremet.
Former Bishop and his wife.  We will miss seeing them each week.

I've probably said this before, but I really don't think I will ever get tired of taking pictures of this beautiful edifice.

******************************************************
So true!  Our children really are good people!

******************************************************************************

Well, the leaves truly are beginning to change.  They are beautiful, but a sad reminder that winter is coming -- again!

******************************************************************************

This is another missionary outing.  Michael and I were in charge of this one.
Luray Caverns and the Shenandoah Valley.

Our friends, Mike & Ilene Hendrick, from Perry, Utah.

My pictures do NOT do justice to this beautiful scenery!
It really was breathtaking!

These were the two ladies I worked with in setting up the lunch at Brookside Restaurant.
I thought it was a perfect name since the name of our apartments is also Brookside.

We pretty much filled up the restaurant.

*******************************************

And THEN came the caverns!
Oh my!  Such underground beauty!  I was a bit nervous before we got there since I am a BIT claustrophobic.  But it was astoundingly large!

I kept thinking that Indiana Jones was going to appear around one of the corners!
But he didn't.

There was an organ down there!

Our guide didn't play it, but she played a tape of music that had been recorded.

Our friends, Gary & Virginia Eddington, from Centerville, Utah.

There was a particular area with fun sound effects.  Our guide sang a song and then asked if anyone in our group wanted to sing.  We all sang I am a Child of God and Called to Serve.
It was pretty cool.

******************************************************

Then we went to a car museum that was pretty fascinating.

The guys just loved looking at all the old engines and stuff.

I thought it was appropriate that I should take a picture of Michael standing next to a Ford.

I was fascinated with the models and their awesome dresses.  This was my favorite!

*************************************************

And then we went to a local history museum.  It was very fun and really quite interesting.

**********************************************

And all good things must come to an end.

*******************************************************

I thought it was time for a 'building party.'  And since I am the Compassionate Service Leader for Building 20....I planned a potluck.  Sorry to say, I didn't get very many pictures.  So here's one with me being goofy.  I also showed them how to slap the whipped cream from their arm to their mouth.  Is that appropriate behavior for a senior missionary?!

******************************************************************************

Another beautiful view as we walk out of the temple.

********************************************************

Beautiful advice from our Prophet, Thomas S. Monson.

We love you all!

Remember who you are!

Lots of love and hugs from
Elder & Sister Cannon in Washington D.C.

P.S.
I'm caught up on the blog!!!
Now to get November finished before the end of December!
